Some thoughts on matching the term to the method.

The Basics of Hunting

  1. Go out to your hunting grounds.
  2. Spot your prey (a single creature).
  3. Stalk your prey.
  4. Attack your prey.
  5. Eat, or go back to step 1.

The Basics of Pole-Fishing

  1. Take out the boat.
  2. Pick your fly.
  3. Cast your line.
  4. Reel in your line.
  5. Reel in a prize, or go back to step 1.

The Basics of Commercial Fishing

  1. Take out the boat.
  2. Cast your nets.
  3. Pull in your nets for sorting.
  4. Go back to step 1 even if you catch more viable product than non.
  5. Go back to step 1 every day so you always have something to sell.

The Basics of “Standard” Job-Hunting

  1. Make your resume.
  2. Send it out into the wilds of the job “market.”
  3. Follow-up everywhere that following-up is an option.
  4. Go back to step 1 even if you get an interview.
  5. Go back to step 1 even if you get the job.

The Basics of Job-Hunting (if we are to continue calling it hunting)

  1. Make your resume.
  2. Spot the perfect business/person/organization to give your resume.
  3. Follow up as personally/personably as possible so you look committed, but not like a stalker.
  4. Get an interview OR go back to step 1.
  5. Get the job OR go back to step 1.
