“The surest way to have nothing to give is to give nothing.”

We can do better.

We can donate to relief efforts. We can plan our next vacation to spend time in a place that could really use our tourism money. We can pool resources so that just one more of us can act as an advocate for a child unconscionably separated from their parents.

We can give some form of human acknowledgement for the person asking us for help even if there is literally nothing in our pocket. We can get creative about giving something, anything. We can build a habit of giving without putting ourselves in a hole.

We tell ourselves a better story to make ourselves better, first. That bettering becomes better behavior towards and better stories told to each other. Together we can push all this bettering to the limit and and get things done for the betterment of all.
